What happened
VanMoof grew fast on venture funding and vertically-integrated, proprietary designs — custom batteries, custom firmware, custom parts. When the company filed for bankruptcy in July 2023, servicing and spare parts dried up. The brand and assets were acquired, but original packs and app-locked components remain hard to source, leaving thousands of S3 and X3 owners hunting for compatible batteries.
